Electricité de France (EdF) has reportedly formed a study group with four other European players in order to discuss investments for the third generation reactor.
The 1.6 GW European Pressurised Water Reactor (EPR) is to be built in Flamanville at a cost of some €3 billion in investments. Construction is set to begin in 2007.
Spain’s Endesa, Germany’s E.On, and Italy’s Enel along with Belgian utility Electrabel are thought to be in the partnership. EdF would reportedly allow each company to hold 5 – 10% of the project, while maintaining a controlling stake. The venture is also thought likely to co-operate in the renovation of EdF’s 58 nuclear plants.
