The new plant of Nordex in Argentina will have a capacity to produce up to 500MW per year

German wind turbine-maker Nordex has inaugurated a new nacelle and hub production facility in Córdoba, Argentina.
Nordex has partnered with Fábrica Argentina de Aviones (FAdeA), a state-owned industrial manufacturer for constructing the plant. The production plant will have an annual capacity of producing up to 500MW.
Production at the plant, had already begun in April, where the first AW132/3300 nacelles will be produced for AES Generación’s wind project.
With the facility, the company aims to position itself as a local supplier for a booming wind market, with good wind conditions. The company is also setting up three local production plants to product concrete towers, through its subcontractors.
This will allow the company to supply wind turbines which fully qualify as local, enabling its clients to receive tax benefits, while also reducing the cost of production and the final cost of energy.
Nordex Group CEO José Luis Blanco said: “As an international company, local-level manufacturing close to our sales regions is an essential element of our expansion strategy. To date, we have had great success in Argentina, as shown by orders for more than 600 MW in the last two years.
“Argentina has some of the best wind resources in the world and it is well positioned to become a major wind power market. Wind turbines within the multi-megawatt range, in which this plant has specialized, will play a key role in this surge.”
The new facility will create 100 specialist jobs
This factory will create up to 100 specialist jobs and further 200 jobs at each of its concrete tower plants.
In February, the company announced that it will set up a production facility in Mexico, to produce its own rotor blades. The new facility, which will be located in Matamoros, in the state of Tamaulipas, will have a capacity of producing more than 1GW annually.
