Nordex is expected to manufacture rotor blades totaling more than 1GW of capacity at the new factory in Mexico. The blades will be supplied for both local and global markets.

The company stated that production will be equally extended to rotor blades for the large turbines of both of its AW and Delta4000 wind turbine platforms. Production is expected to begin at the facility in spring 2019.

The production hall is presently equipped with modern production moulds. At full capacity, the new facility will create nearly 900 direct and indirect jobs in the region.

Nordex Group CEO José Luis Blanco said: “With the plant in Matamoros, we are responding to the sharp rise in global demand for our products. In addition to the existing rotor blade production facilities in different regions, we can now also manufacture our rotor blades in the vicinity of the North and Latin American growth markets. This increases significantly our competitiveness.”

Tamaulipas Governor Francisco García Cabeza de Vaca said: “Nordex production in Matamoros confirms that there’s confidence in Tamaulipas and contributes to the growth of the energy sector. We reaffirm the commitment to guide and support companies that are coming to our State.”

Last month, the company secured four orders in the US, the Netherlands, India and France. In the US, the company agreed to supply turbines for 150MW wind farm of an undisclosed independent power producer.

The order in the Netherlands was placed by Vattenfall, for two wind farms with 49MW of capacity. For this order, the company has agreed to supply 13 of its turbines with more than 3MW of capacity.

The order in India was placed by Sprng Energy. It was a 300MW turnkey order for the Mulanur wind project to be located in the Southern state of Tamil Nadu. For this order, Nordex will supply 100 AW140/3000 turbines, each with 3MW of capacity.

The order in France was placed by four different customers for wind farms totaling 84MW. The orders were placed by EDF Renewables, JP Energie Environnement, Eurowatt and Valorem.
