The fourth 335MW hydroelectric generator at Russia’s Bureya hydro power station has been put into operation.

Russian electricity utility United Energy System (UES) held an opening ceremony yesterday, where the CEO of UES Anthony Chubais said the company hoped to launch the station’s fifth and sixth units in 2007, bringing its total capacity to 2000MW.

The first three units of the Bureya plant, which is located on the Bureya river at the junction of the Amur Region and the Khabarovsk Terrirory, began operating in 2003 to 2004.
