Oil and gas company Neptune Energy has commenced gas production from the new L5a-D4 well in the Dutch North Sea.

The L5a-D4 high pressure, high temperature well is located in the L5a-D field, around 100km North of Den Helder.

L5a-D platform is operated by Neptune Energy with 60% interest

Tapped at a depth of 5.5km, the well is tied back to the L5a-D platform, which is jointly owned by Neptune Energy (operator) with 60% interest and EBN with 40% stake.

Neptune Netherlands managing director Lex de Groot said: “We continue to seek opportunities to grow our business in the Netherlands and to enhance our offshore gas production. Dutch offshore natural gas remains hugely important for heating Dutch homes.

“Production of Dutch natural gas also contributes directly and indirectly to the Dutch economy and produces 30% lower CO2 emission than imported gas.”

Neptune Energy said that the production follows the drilling of the E17a-A6 well, situated about 160km from Den Helder. The well became operational in October 2019.

Last year, Neptune Energy subsidiary, Neptune Energy East Sepinggan, acquired 20% interest in the East Sepinggan area production sharing contract (PSC) located offshore Indonesia from Italian oil and gas company Eni.

With the completion of the sale, Eni will continue to serve as the operator of the East Sepinggan area with 65% interest.

The remaining stakes of 15% and 20% are held by PT Pertamina Hulu Energi East Sepinggan and Neptune Energy East Sepinggan, respectively.
