The project Estrella del Mar III will be installed at the client’s location in Santo Domingo, the capital of the Dominican Republic.

Siemens stated that the SCC-800 2×1 SeaFloat concept with two Siemens SGT-800 gas turbines and one SST-600 steam turbine has been selected by the customer due to site constraints with limited free land and its experience with previous power barges.

Siemens, which leads the project team, will provide its combined cycle power plant with 145MW capacity, while ST Engineering will deliver the engineering design, procurement and construction of the floating power barge, the balance of plant and the installation of the floating power plant.

Furthermore, Siemens will also provide its hybrid SIESTART solution, which combines a flexible combined cycle power plant with a battery energy storage system.

ST Engineering Marine president Ng Sing Chan said: “This collaboration between ST Engineering and Siemens leverages each other’s strength and capabilities to design, build and deliver a technologically advanced floating power barge.

“We’re excited that in the end, the SCC-800 2×1 floating power plant will bring clean and green electrical energy solution to benefit more people in the Dominican Republic.”

The power plant is scheduled to commence operations in spring 2021.

Fluence Energy, a company formed by Siemens and AES, is providing a 5MW/10 MWh battery energy storage system, which will be integrated as part of the power plant for frequency regulation control, allowing the plant to operate at full capacity with highest fuel efficiency.
