For this project Siemens Gamesa will supply 48 of its SG3.4-132 and 14 of SWT-2.3-108 turbines with 3.4MW and 2.3MW of power rating, respectively. The supply order also includes a 20 year service and maintenance agreement.

Siemens Gamesa stated that it will provide scale and flexibility to maximize energy asset returns. The maintenance program will include advanced diagnostics and digital capabilities, customized to increase performance to achieve low cost of energy for customers.

Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy service Americas head Darnell Walker said: “We are pleased to partner with Southern Power for the Reading Wind project and we are committed to upholding the highest standard of safety, availability and reliability that we are known for providing.”

Southern Power has previously selected Siemens Gamesa to supply turbines for four other wind projects, which include more than 300 turbines, with a total capacity about 720MW.

In Kansas, Siemens Gamesa has installed 484 wind turbines across nine projects with more than 1GW capacity.

The Spanish turbine-maker stated that it has supplied turbines for more than 150 project sites with an output capacity of more than 18GW in the US. This is equivalent of powering more than 5 million average US homes. It also has a strong manufacturing and services footprint in the country.

Recently, Siemens Gamesa was selected as the preferred supplier by Danish energy company Orsted for its 900MW offshore wind project in Taiwan.

The offshore project is expected to include nearly 112 units of SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine. Subject to final agreement, the company will establish a nacelle assembly facility near Taichung Harbor. This facility could be ready by 2021.

To cater to the requirements of Asia-Pacific, the company has also introduced a variant of SG 8.0-167 DD offshore wind turbine with 8MW of nominal capacity. This turbine is expected to address local conditions in the region and is claimed to have been designed to meet local codes and standards regarding typhoons and seismic activities.
