The four B35:40V20AG2 medium speed gas engines to be supplied by Rolls-Royce will generate heat and power for district heating company Teplaren Kosice. The engines will be manufactured at Bergen Engines, which is part of Rolls-Royce Power Systems.

Rolls-Royce’s contract also has a service agreement for a period of five years.

According to Rolls-Royce, the B35:40V20AG2 medium speed gas engines are flexibly designed to adapt to various operating modes. They can be utilized to produce base-load, peak power or operate in combined cycle.

Three minutes after getting started, the engines can run with 100% load to the rated speed of 750 rpm, claimed Rolls-Royce.

Bergen Engines managing director Jeff Elliott said: “Cogeneration plants based on our medium speed gas engines are a reliable alternative to coal-based plants and significantly more environmentally friendly.

“In addition, the engines’ flexibility will enable Teplaren Kosice to operate efficiently, both in terms of cost and time.”

The new cogeneration plant in Kosice, which is slated to be commissioned early 2019, will provide district heating for the region by using hot water from the gas engines. Heat emitted from the engines can also be utilized to produce steam in the heat recovery steam generators, which can be supplied to industrial customers, said Rolls-Royce.

Earlier, this month, Rolls-Royce won its first order in China to supply 16 MTU 12V 4000 T95 Oil & Gas engines to Jereh Petroleum Equipment. The engines, scheduled to be delivered in 2018, can deliver up to 1,865 kW for new fracturing pumps while fulfilling EPA Tier 4 final emission requirement without after treatment, said Rolls-Royce.
