As part of this agreement, Prysmian and GCC Lab will conduct a joint technical cooperation to develop testing, inspection and certification activities in the GCC region.
The MOU has a validity of 60 months and it will be converted into a definitive agreement in the first year of collaboration.
GCC Electrical Equipment Testing Laboratory (GCC Lab) is a testing facility for power transmission and distribution cables and accessories in Dammam, Saudi Arabia.
Prysmian Group Middle East chief commercial officer Antonio Chiantore said: “This is only the first step in a broader span of technical cooperation opportunities. Prysmian together with GCC Lab, in fact, have agreed to identify other collaboration initiatives aimed at improving the reliability of power cable systems in the GCC region.”
Prysmian will cooperate with GCC Lab to perform Partial Discharge (PD) tests, based on its PRY–CAM wireless technology, on behalf of third parties, both inside and outside GCC Lab.
PRY-CAM wireless technology is claimed to provide fast, accurate and effective online and reliable Partial Discharge measurements, diagnosis and defect localisation, without turning off the system.
It also claims to be covering every aspect of condition assessment for any electrical equipment ranging between 3 kV and 600 kV. The data thus collected will be stored via cloud, which can be accessed and shared remotely.
The agreement includes supply of PRY-CAM equipment and training at Prysmian Headquarters in Milan, Italy, to GCC Lab’s engineers, for the delivery of PRY-CAM PD training sessions in GCC Lab to third parties including Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Aramco and Sabic and on-line PD services on site.
The cable manufacturer stated that it will support GCC Lab in executing PD analysis to ensure the high performance and quality service levels.
