Petrofac announced that the Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)’s Rabab Harweel Integrated Project (RHIP) has reached the start-up phase with gas production from six sour wells.

The company said that the start-up phase of the project is months ahead of schedule, and the capacity of the plant is expected to be ramped up over the coming weeks, with the progress in the commissioning process.

Petrofac provided engineering, procurement, construction management and commissioning support services worth approximately $1.25bn (£1bn) for RHIP.

Rabab Harweel facility in Harweel cluster of fields

The Rabab Harweel megaproject is located in the Harweel cluster of fields, deep in the Southern Omani desert, equipped with sour gas processing facilities, associated gathering and injection systems and export pipelines.

The facility is expected to handle the production of oil and gas from the Harweel oil reservoirs through miscible gas injection and the production of gas with condensate from the Rabab reservoir through partial recycling of sour gas.

Once it reaches the capacity, the facility would enable export of sweet gas to the Salalah Gas Pipeline (SGL) and produce stabilised condensate for export to the Main Oil Line (MOL) via Marmul.

Elie Lahoud, Petrofac’s Group MD, E&C – Oman, Iraq and Saudi Arabia said: “We are proud of our role in the delivery of this landmark project, the start-up marks an important milestone.

“In addition to an excellent safety performance, it’s particularly pleasing that such a complex project has come in ahead of plan and that we have been able to return significant value to PDO through our engineering expertise and by leveraging our extensive procurement and supply chain capabilities.”

In June, Petrofac secured its third project under a 10-year Framework Agreement with PDO by winning the award of a procurement services project for the Mabrouk North East Line Pipe Procurement Project in Oman.

The scope of the contract includes management of line pipe material from sourcing, technical and commercial evaluation, planning and control services with management and co-ordination of interfaces with all parties involved.
