The federal tax credit will enable the customers to receive up to a maximum of $2,500 towards the cost of purchasing ZAPTRUCK XL and ZAPVAN Shuttle after 17 February 2009 and before 1 January 2012 under Internal Revenue Code Section 30.
The IRS has developed the Form 8834 Qualified Plug-In Electric Vehicle Credit that covers vehicle purchase date and which the customer will be required to file with the Federal Tax Return to get the tax credit.
ZAP’s electric trucks and vans, which are claimed to achieve the equivalent of over 100 miles per gallon, at a cost of about two cents per mile, are suitable for fixed route deliveries, utility and material handling applications.
ZAP CEO Steve Schneider said that these tax credits make the ZAP electric trucks and vans even more affordable to operate.
“Combined with lower fueling and maintenance costs, which can be a third of conventional cars, this can be a great incentive for our customers to integrate electric vehicle technology into their fleets,” Schneider said
