The panels will be used to produce electricity that would be supplied to Arena Pernambuco, the site of five 2014 FIFA World Cup matches in Brazil.

The 1MW ground-mount system, which marks first solar power plant for Pernambuco state in Brazil, has been established on 15,000m² area at Sao Lourenço de Mata in the suburb of Recife.

Yingli Green Energy chairman and chief executive officer Liansheng Miao said, "Thanks to its prominent location next to the stadium this 1MW project will raise the profile of solar energy considerably during the FIFA World Cup, helping to bring our message of affordable green energy to the people of Brazil and football fans worldwide."

Built using over 3,650 monocrystalline PANDA Series panels, which are made using Yingli Solar’s high-efficiency cell technology, the system is expected to generate over 1,500MWh of electricity per annum.

The system will be used to meet 30% of Arena Pernambuco’s electricity demand and to deliver the electricity to local community’s electricity grid, when stadium is not in use.
