The gas pipeline was constructed to link block 18 to the Balhaf terminal on the Gulf of Aden and is the only pipeline in the country that supplies to the LNG plant.

The explosion of the 320km long gas pipeline is expected to be a result of attacks from militant groups.

The gas pipeline has been sabotaged several times by Qaida linked gunmen following military strikes on militants, reported Reuters.

Yemen’s oil and gas pipeline have been attacked numerous times by anti-social groups over the past year after the anti-government protests resulted in power vacuum in the country.

The attacks are causing fuel shortage and reduced export income.
