The company plans to retire the plant’s units 3 and 4 and replace them with natural gas-fired units.

The units 1 and 2 of the facility were converted to natural gas combined-cycle operation in 2002.

The proposed Black Dog repowering project will replace the remaining 253MW of coal-fired generating capacity at the site with about 700MW of gas-fired capacity.

If the project is approved, site preparation is expected to begin in 2012, with foundation construction in 2013.
