Finland’s Wärtsilä Corp is to deliver a 163 MW gas-fired power plant to California-based Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) to be located in Humboldt Bay near Eureka in northern California.

The company will supply 10 of its 18V50DF lean-burn dual-fuel engines on an engineering, procurement and construction basis. The engines will be fuelled by natural gas and are capable of using fuel oil as back-up if required.

The agreement is subject to regulatory approval, with commercial operation is expected by mid-2009. Financial terms were not disclosed.
