The Wärtsilä Mobile LNG is designed to bring electricity to locations where pipelines and large-scale LNG receiving terminals are not feasible and where a less amount of LNG is needed.
This vessel can either be combined with a barge-mounted power plant with an output capacity of around 250MW or can be used to supply conventional land-based power plants.
With an ability to be easily re-located, Wärtsilä Mobile LNG will be suitable for shallow water areas where larger vessels cannot be deployed without major jetty constructions or dredging operations.
Wärtsilä Marine Solutions flow and gas solutions vice president Timo Koponen said: "Wärtsilä’s solutions support the entire gas value chain, from drilling and production, to delivery, liquefaction, regasification, storage, and power generation.
"This latest innovation is one more important step towards completing our LNG infrastructure offering. Most existing facilities are geared for larger-scale users, whereas the Wärtsilä Mobile LNG offers a flexible and mobile option for small to medium requirements."
The deployment of barge in areas with an undeveloped infrastructure require a lower capital investment, when compared to the construction of conventional land-based terminals.
Wärtsilä employs close to 17,700 people in its operations across 200 locations in nearly 70 countries around the world.
