Wärtsilä, a provider of technologies and complete lifecycle solutions for the marine and energy markets, has acquired Weir American Hydro from Weir Group to strengthen its operations.

Financial terms of the deal were undisclosed.

Wärtsilä expects the acquisition of Weir American Hydro to boost and expand its existing global hydro and industrial service offerings.

American Hydro president Alan Roth said: "American Hydro is excited to be an instrumental part of Wärtsilä Services’ aim to be a leading global services provider to the Hydropower & Industrial markets".

American Hydro will be part of the Wärtsilä Services business, effective from 30 June 2016.

Wärtsilä Services Pierpaolo Barbone president said: "American Hydro has an established and respected position in the hydroelectric business.

"The acquisition supports our growth strategy and expansion in renewables, improving our offering and services towards our customers."

The sale is part of Weir Group’s plan to divest £100m of assets. As part of this effort, the firm also divested Ynfiniti Engineering Services to undisclosed firm.

US and Canada-based American Hydro provides large equipment upgrades and services for the hydroelectric and water distribution industries. It also provides consultancy, design and precision performance enhancements for hydro-turbines and pumps.

Ynfiniti is engaged in providing operation and maintenance services for the wind, solar photovoltaic and thermo-solar energy sectors.
