The main focus of the $190m project is to convert six heat-only boiler plants, located in different places across Belarus, to combined heat and power (CHP) plants. Modern combined cycle gas turbines and gas engines will be installed in the plants, through which the generation capacity would be increased by 90 MW. An increase of 30% heat and power generation efficiency is expected at the project sites.
The usage of natural gas is estimated to be reduced annually by about 90 million cubic meters, which would bring down the emission of carbon dioxide annually by approximately 165,000 tonnes.
The project would be accomplished by the Belinvestenerhazberazhenne state enterprise which is going to report to the Energy Efficiency Department, an agency responsible for the national energy efficiency programme, under the State Standardization Committee.
The project would commence its work in 2009 and is expected to be complete in five years.
