BC Hydro and the Columbia Basin Trust co-ordinated a workshop sponsored by the World Commission on Dams, on the Canadian perspective of the impacts of the Grand Coulee dam development in northeast Washington, US. The workshop on Grand Coulee (pictured below) is part of a global initiative by WCD to study large dams in the context of the river basin in which they are located.
Grand Coulee dam, which began operating in 1941, provides 6480MW of power.
Its construction significantly influenced the eventual development of the Columbia River Treaty dams — Hugh Keenleyside, Mica and Duncan in British Columbia, Canada.
