At least 13 people trapped in a tunnel after a landslide at the site of India's Lower Subansiri hydro power plant have been rescued.

The 2000MW plant is currently under construction in the northeastern state of Arunachal Pradesh. The survivors were engineers and workers from Larsen & Toubro (L&T), one of India’s largest engineering and construction companies.

Officials say that they were trapped inside the tunnel for approximately 20 hours, after mudslides triggered by heavy rains had blocked the tunnel entrance.

Rescuers also uncovered seven dead bodies, according to reports.
