Vietnam has begun construction work on its largest hydro-electric power plant in the northern mountainous province of Son La.

The six unit, 2,400 MW plant is being built on the Da (Black) River in It Ong commune in Muong La district in consultation with Russia’s Moscow Hydrodynamics Designing Institute.

The Song Da Construction Corporation has been appointed as lead contractor for the development which is expected to be complete by 2015, with first generation expected to commence in 2010.
