A joint venture between the Netherlands company EPZ and its parent, PNEM/MEGA Groep, is to build a wood gasification plant at the Amercentrale power station in Geertruidenberg.

Manufacture and construction of the power plant will be carried out by the German company Lurgi, under a deal that is estimated at a value of $25 million.

The plant will employ a gas production unit that is based on a circulating fluidized bed (CFB).

Wood waste will be fed into the gas generator, and the raw gas will be cleaned using a cyclone and other downstream devices. The cleaned gas will then be burned in the existing unit 9 at the Amercentrale power station.

The wood waste gasification unit is expected to replace the use of around 70 000 t/y of coal. Thermal output of the gas generator will be 85 MW, and it will burn 150 000 t/y of wood.

Commerical operation of the plant is scheduled for early in 2000.
