Wintershall is expected to sell the land after the demolition. In the first stage of the demolition; above-ground and underground facilities, and accompanying structures such as pipeline systems, tanks, pumps, cable lines and buildings will be removed.

In the second phase, the site ground will be examined. Based on these results, a restoration plan will then be drawn up and submitted to the authorities for approval. In the third phase, the grounds will be restored and then re-naturalized. The whole process is expected to be complete by the end of 2009.

The Jockgrim fuel storage site was part of the Wintershall refinery in Mannheim, Germany, and was leased to the German oil stock authority, Erdolbevorratungsverband, after decommissioning.

Since no other use for the fuel storage site became apparent for Wintershall Holding or for the BASF Group, the decision to re-naturalize the site was made.
