Wind generating capacity in the USA is expected to show growth of more than 75 per cent in 2001 according to the American Wind Energy Association. Installed capacity by the year end should be around 4500 MW.
This rapid growth has been stimulated by technological improvements which make wind power competitive with natural gas, the AWEA claims. The US currently imports around 16 per cent of its natural gas.
