Under the contract, awarded by the National Nuclear Energy Generating Company of Ukraine (NNEGC Energoatom), Westinghouse Electric will develop a passive hydrogen-control system to provide additional measures for ensuring containment integrity in the event of both a design-basis accident and beyond-design-basis accident.
The company is expected to complete the engineering, design, supply and installation of the passive safety system by January 2016.

The Westinghouse Passive Autocatalytic Recombiner solution, known as NIS-PAR, will help to control and mitigate the effects of hydrogen generation under severe accident conditions.
The NIS-PAR passive equipment features little-to-zero maintenance costs and enables easy installation and testing multiple cartridges to reduce associated work during outages.
