The agreement aims at development of an engineering-led organization, engaged in a range of disciplines, including safety, health, environment, risk and quality (SHERQ) and authorized inspection agency services, manufacturing quality support and skills development and training in the nuclear industry sector.
Westinghouse France, Benelux and South Africa vice president and managing director François Harari said the agreement reaffirms the company’s commitment to develop and support the South African nuclear industry, and use local talent and resources.
”Westinghouse and Sebata Group will utilize their complementary skills in upcoming projects to further develop the expertise required for an eventual nuclear build project in South Africa,” Harari added.
”Supplier development is critical to Westinghouse and that’s why we think globally but act locally.”
Sebata Group founder and executive chairman Matome Edmund Modipa said, ”It’s aligned with our growth strategy in positioning SEBATA Group as a premier SHERQ, engineering, management consulting and training and nuclear company in Africa.”
The company has also recently signed an agreement with South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (Necsa) to investigate and cooperate in the development of local fabrication capabilities for fuel assembly components.
