Six months after the Czech Rep government cancelled the nuclear new-build tender for two new reactors, Westinghouse has offered to part-finance the new-build project, according to the Czech News Agency.

It was a finallist in the bid, along with a Czech-Russian consortium of Skoda and Atomstroyexport. In other foreign nuclear power plant projects, Russian nuclear vendors have promoted their willingness to offer large amounts of financing for new-build projects.

At the time the Czech government said that in light of continuing discussion about the future of the electricity sector in the EU, it does not currently plan to provide guarantees or a stabilisation mechanism that would underwrite construction of low-emission power plants.

However Westinghouse has pointed to similar cost-sharing agreements in the USA and Bulgaria for AP1000 projects. In Bulgaria, it has entered talks to build a single AP1000 at Kozloduy.

The Czech News Agency said that no decisions about a new tender have been made. A nuclear energy development plan is expected by the end of 2014.
