The Kurdamir-1 well is contingent for a further intermediate casing the string.
Kurdamir-1 is situated on a separate anticlinal structure about 30 kilometers northeast of the company’s first wildcat exploration well, Sarqala-1. Kurdamir-1 will target four potential reservoir zones – the Oligocene and Pilaspi/Jaddala intervals in the Tertiary, and the Shiranish and upper Qamchuaqa intervals in the Cretaceous.
WesternZagros Resources and its co-venturers, the Kurdistan regional government and Talisman Energy Inc., have incorporated key learnings from Sarqala-1 in the well design for Kurdamir-1 to facilitate and mitigate the risk of overpressure and other drilling issues. Specifically the company has intended for a further intermediate casing string at Kurdamir-1, plus the contingency for a further string depending on drilling conditions. Additional key personnel have also been engaged to be present in-country comprising a mud specialist, an operational geologist and drilling engineers.
