In 2013, the company’s major projects will include transmission improvements, building new circuits, replacing underground cables, inspecting and replacing utility poles, and ongoing vegetation management programs.
The company’s 2013 enhancements are expected to have both localized and widespread benefits to customers throughout the service area.
Nearly $19m will be spent on a variety of transmission expansions and enhancements intended to increase the capacity and robustness of West Penn Power’s high-voltage transmission system.
FirstEnergy’s president of Pennsylvania operations Douglas Elliott said the planned infrastructure projects will help maintain the company’s system on a day-to-day basis to benefit West Penn Power customers now, while helping to prepare for future load growth.
"From installing new equipment at substations and replacing cables, to spending on vegetation management, our ultimate goal is to continue to enhance the reliability of our system to benefit our customers," Elliott added.
