Comprising portions 12 and 16 of the company’s farm Vlakvarkfontein in the Witbank district, Intibane Colliery has 4 Seam and 2 Seam present.
A previous work by the company at the site has estimated an indicated resource of 1, 84 million tons and an inferred resource of 240,000 tons at Portion 16 with inferred resource of 1, 9 million tons at Portion 12.
Wescoal said it was at an advanced stage of mine planning for Intibane Colliery, its second operating mine, with mining expected to begin in the latter half of 2012, with the first coal production expected in early 2013.
Mining in surrounding areas was already undertaken over a number of years, with collieries supplying bituminous coal from its Khanyisa mine to Eskom, the inland market and export steam coal.
The company said coal resources at Intibane would be a step towards Wescoals stated annual production goal of 4 million tons of coal by 2016.
