Located in East Medinipur district of West Bengal, the Kolaghat coal fired plant features six units with a total capacity of 1,260MW, Business Standard reports.
An unnamed official was quoted by the news agency as saying that the company is currently in talks with international development fiancé institutions, which funds this kind of projects.
"World Bank representatives have recently visited the plant and likely to partially fund the project," the official added.
The rebuilding process will include change of entire machinery of the units, and the tender for the project is likely to be floated by early 2014.
"It would take about two years to complete the project. We want to make the three units operative again by 2017," the official noted.
West Bengal state power secretary Malay De said the three units are low-productive and highly polluting at the same time.
"It has become an immediate necessity now to rebuild the units," De added.
Two units of 500 MW each of WBPDCL at Sgardighi, 250MW of Durgapur Projects (DPL), CESC’s two Haldia units of 300 MW will remain operational during rebuilding of the units to help address the state’s power demands.
