The intermediate load power plant, with a capacity of more than 145MW, will include eight 18-cylinder Wartsila 50SG engines running on natural gas.
Together with a steam turbine in combined-cycle operation, the facility will have a capacity of about 160MW at full load.
Electricity generated by the plant will be supplied for the company’s steel mill in Samsun on Turkey’s Black Sea coast, and any surplus energy produced by the facility will be sold to the national grid.
According to Wartsila, the power plant is scheduled to be operational by October 2012.
