Earlier in 2006, the council has awarded the resource consent for a 35-year term until 2041 to the company with a provision for an initial review in 2008 and then every five years.
As per the terms, the council shall review the consent conditions if it recognizes any potential effects of the plant that were not taken into account when the consent was issued.
Early this month, some parties including the Friends of Lake Taupo asked the council to carry out a review and argued that the lake management regime is causing significant foreshore erosion around the lake.
However, the council has ruled not to review the consents following a monitoring and scientific investigation as well as technical advice from independent experts. The investigation has revealed the evidence did not show that lake level management contributed to foreshore erosion.
The same conclusion was reached in 2008 and the next review will be in 2018.
