VWS, which has secured the contract from Water en Energiebedrijf Aruba (WEB Aruba), an electric and water utility, will design the desalination plant to treat seawater from beach wells to provide drinking water to the island.
This desalination project, which is expected to be completed within a period of 22 months, will utilize reverse osmosis technology to replace thermal desalination units that were operating with low pressure steam from steam turbines.
Further, the VWS companies will be providing performance guarantees for water production and quality, minimal downtime, and electrical and chemical consumption in addition to providing one year of on-site operations assistance and two years of off-site technical assistance.
NA Water Systems vice president of desalination Paul Choules said that Veolia Water Solutions & Technologies is pleased to be working with Aruba on this project.
“This new desalination plant will provide the community with more efficient treatment process and enable Aruba to phase out the older technology,” Choules said.
