VolkerInfra has secured a contract to deliver onshore export cables for the 336MW Galloper offshore wind farm off the coast of Suffolk.

Under the contract with GE’s Grid Solutions, VolkerInfra will design, supply, install and pre-commission two 132kV onshore export cables, six 132kV cable circuits in the Galloper substation and two 132kV cables to link the project to its new substation at Sizewell.

An additional two 132kV offshore cables and six 33kV circuits are also part of the deal, which is worth more than £5m.

VolkerInfra technical development director Peter Cooke said: "Following on from the successful delivery of our first 132kV project for GE’s Grid Solutions at Salle Substation, we are really excited to have been selected to support them on this much larger and more complex scheme."

"It is testament to the work we have been doing with other clients and another success for us.
"We are looking forward to establishing our site presence later this month."

RWE Innogy UK, UK Green Investment Bank, Siemens Financial Services and Macquarie Capital own the Galloper wind farm, which will feature 56 Siemens 6MW turbines.

The facility is an extension of the existing and fully operational Greater Gabbard wind farm. The wind farm is expectd to cost about £1.5bn.

The extension project is expected start operations by the end of March 2018.
