Voith Siemens has won the electro-mechanical equipment contract for the Jinping II hydro plant on the Yalong river in China.

In a statement, voith-siemens said the order from Ertan Hydropower Development Co (EHDC) was worth approximately Euro120M (US$) and was largest deal for its local business, Voith Siemens Shanghai, since it was established 13 years ago.

The Jinping II scheme is part of a major cascade development on the Yalong river, and the plant itself will have an installed capacity of 4,800MW. The plant will be equipped with eight 600MW units and the maximum head will be 318m. Thee penstock will be 17km long – one of the largest in the world, the firm added.

Jinping II is scheduled for completion in 2014.

MWH was recently awarded a consultancy services contract for the sister project, Jinping I.
