Norwegian energy company Hafslund Produksjon has awarded the contract for the extension of the biggest run-of-river power plant in the country.
Under the contract, Voith will supply and install a vertical Kaplan turbine, a generator as well as the associated control system and switch gear.
The unit with a turbine capacity of 129MW and a generator output of 150MVA will be commissioned in spring 2019.
Voith Hydro Norway CEO Frode Moen said: "The planned machine is quite unique as it belongs to the largest Kaplan machines in Northern Europe.
"It will produce around 1,000GWh per year and replace some of the 100 year old machines with a total capacity of 800 GWh in the power plant."
With an installed capacity of close to 31,000MW, Norway produces 95%of its electricity through hydropower. Nearly 129TWh of clean power is generated from hydropower plants in the country.
Of the 213.8TWh of hydropower potential in Norway, over 60% has been developed so far.
With 39,000 employees, Voith operates in about 50 countries around the world. The company, founded in 1867, generates €5.3bn.
Voith, along with Skelleftea Kraft, inaugurated the Bruksfors hydroelectric project in Sweden’s northeast in September this year.
This follows restoration of the project including the installation of a power unit.
