Germany-based Voith has secured a €30m contract for equipping the new hydropower plant Upper Kaleköy in Turkey.

As per the agreed terms, the company will supply three Francis turbines, each with an installed capacity of around 202MW, along with associated equipment.

The new project Upper Kaleköy, which is a part of a portfolio of four storage plants, is the second project on the Murat River in Eastern Turkey.

In addition, Voith is currently implementing Beyhan-1 hydropower plant in the region.

Around half of 100 power plants that were installed in Turkey during the first half of 2013 are hydroelectric plants.

Currently, Turkey has 20,000MW of hydropower capacity, of which only one third is being used.
