Unit 2 of the Alvin W. Vogtle nuclear power plant in Georgia, USA has resumed electricity generation, after completing a 24 day refuelling and maintenance outage.

The reactor was taken offline on 10 March, and restarted electricity production at just after midday on 3 April, Southern Nuclear announced.

In addition to refuelling, which occurs every 18 months, various upgrades were also completed.

Among these was the installation of a digital feed water control system that replaced analogue technology original to the plant. An identical digital system was installed on unit 1 during its refueling and maintenance outage in October 2012.
