Vitex Systems, Inc. (Vitex) has expanded its license agreement with Advanced Neotech Systems (ANS). As per the agreement, Vitex grants ANS a right to develop and manufacture roll-to-roll coating equipment used in the production of Barix Barrier Film. The company has signed the first equipment license agreement with ANS in 2006, allowing ANS to make Barix encapsulation equipment, the Guardian System.

The expansion of our relationship with ANS enables us to ensure that customers have the equipment they need to successfully commercialize products using our technology, said Chyi-Shan Suen, director of business development at Vitex. We have seen strong demand for our Barix Barrier Film, also known as Flexible Glass, particularly from companies in the photovoltaic industry. Several film producing companies and thin-film photovoltaic customers are interested in moving to production and need a source for the proper equipment. We have a long history with ANS and are confident in their ability to serve these customers.

Over the 2008, Vitex has made brilliant progress demonstrating the unique capabilities of its Barix Barrier Film for encapsulation of thin-film photovoltaic cells.

Vitex’s Barix encapsulation is recognized as the best in the industry. Today, there are 11 tools in the field utilizing Vitex’s thin-film encapsulation for applications in the display industry and other fields that require a superior thin-film barrier, said BK Chun, general manager, sales and marketing, ANS. We enjoy a fruitful relationship with Vitex. Our current customers are all very satisfied with the barrier performance. We have also received a tremendous amount of interest from potential customers for depositing the Barix barrier on plastic foil or directly on PV devices in a roll-to-roll format. With our experience making the Barix encapsulation equipment and the resources to be injected by SNU Precision after our merger last week, we believe that we are in an excellent position to serve this emerging market.

ANS and SNU Precision Co., Ltd. completed a previously announced merger on January 19, 2009.

Vitex has signed the first equipment license agreement with ANS in 2006, allowing ANS to make Barix encapsulation equipment, the Guardian System. ANS has effectively sold eight Guardian systems to produce Vitex’s proprietary Barix technology, including: a pilot system being used by Samsung SDI to make the world’s first foldable OLED and the thinnest OLED display that was shown at FPD International 2008 in Yokohama; the first mass production system; and the first Gen 2 (370mm x 470mm) system.

Recently ANS was awarded the Excellence in Korea Information Display Award (KIDA) for its thin-film encapsulation in October 2008 at the 8th International Meeting on Information Display (IMID).
