Vietnam's Ministry of Industry (MI) will help Laos's Sekong province to build the Sekhamane hydroelectric dam and expand the national power grid to remote areas, the Vietnam News Agency reported from Vientiane on 3 September 2002.

The agreement was reached during a recent meeting in the Sekong province between visiting Vietnamese deputy director of the MI’s external relations department Vu Van Thai and deputy head of Sekong province’s Administration Office, Somvang Khammavong.

Thai and Khammavong discussed the socio-economic development plan for the Sekong province for the 2010-20 period as well as examined feasibility studies and potentials for the province.

Sekong province is making preparations for construction of infrastructural facilities, including the expansion of the national power grid to Se Xet and Huai Hor dams and the construction of Se Ka Man dam in the next three years.
