In 2009, Vestas will supply a total of 223MW of wind turbines intended for installation on five wind farms in Greece, two in France and one in Italy.
Vestas had earlier signed a frame agreement with EDF Energies Nouvelles (EDF-EN), for the delivery of 100MW of wind turbines each in 2008 and 2009. Furthermore, the agreement contained an option to purchase an additional 200MW for delivery in 2009.
The 223MW order will include seven units of the V80-2MW wind turbine, 13 units of V90-2MW and 61 units of the V90-3MW wind turbine. Furthermore, the order comprises supply and commissioning of the wind turbines as well as the VestasOnline Business supervisory control and data acquisition system. Delivery of the 81 wind turbines is expected to begin in 2009.
Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean, said: We are pleased that EDF-EN has utilized the option stipulated in our frame agreement and chose Vestas as its partner for these large wind energy projects in the Mediterranean area. We are particularly pleased to see the confidence placed in our V90-3MW wind turbine. We look forward to further developing our long-term partnership with EDF-EN and extending our business cooperation into new markets.
