Denmark-based Vestas has received a 66MW order from Windco for 31 units of its V90-2MW and five units of its V52-850kW wind turbines, for the Trapani Salemi project to be built in Sicily, Italy. The order comprises supply and installation, a VestasOnline Business supervisory control and data acquisition system, as well as a five-year service agreement.

Italy-based Windco is a project company owned by Electrabel, which is a subsidiary of the Suez Group.

With a total estimated annual production of approx 180GWh per year, the Trapani Salemi project will be able to satisfy the electricity needs of 75,000 Italian households, and will save the environment from almost 82,000 tons of CO2 a year.

Delivery of the project is scheduled to start in December 2008, and the project will be completed by October 2009.

Juan Araluce, president of Vestas Mediterranean, said: We are very pleased to receive this new order for Sicily, and we are proud that we will be working together with a cross-border energy player such as Electrabel on this project. We look forward to maintaining our business relationship with Electrabel in the future.
