Wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has secured an order to supply turbines with a total generating capacity of 219MW for an expansion of the Alta Wind Energy Center in California, US.

The company will deliver 73 units of the V90-3MW wind turbine for the power project located near the city of Tehachapi in Kern County.

Overall, 100 units of the V90-3MW turbine will be installed for the facility’s expansion and 27 turbines were already purchased in 2010.

Vestas will deliver and commission the turbines and provide maintenance services for five years for the 300MW expansion project.

The new turbines are scheduled to be delivered this year, with commissioning expected in late 2011.

The Alta Wind Energy Center is supported by a 1,550MW power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison to help satisfy California’s 33% renewable portfolio standard.
