The SURVEYOR Sustainability Dashboard offers a flexible and easy-to-use reporting system that monitors and graphically. The SURVEYOR also reports how a driving bottom line improvement is and positively contributes to the environment. The SURVEYOR allows customers to centrally control and reduce the energy used by PCs on their network by up to 60% without impacting end users or IT.
Enterprise PCs are wasting money. Far too many organizations leave economic and environmental value on the table by not reducing PC-related energy costs, wrote Doug Washburn, Analyst, Forrester Research in the December 2008 report titled How Much Money Are Your Idle PCs Wasting? Forrester recommends organizations take a time-based approach to PC power management – and then maximize gains by powering down PCs during nights and weekends, applying industry best practices and enabling power management on as many assets as possible. To help ensure benefits are actually achieved and tracked, IT ops professionals should consider PC power management software that offers useful provisioning, administration, power settings, and reporting capabilities.
Businesses and government agencies consistently report that saving energy costs and positively impacting the environment are the primary motivations for implementing Green-IT solutions, yet they often have had difficulty measuring and communicating results, said Brett Goodwin, vice president, Verdiem. The new Sustainability Dashboard removes this barrier in Green-IT, providing Verdiem’s SURVEYOR customers with a PC power management system that displays real and tangible energy cost and carbon emission savings.
Verdiem said that the City of Chicago, the City of Honolulu and King county are among customers using the new SURVEYOR Sustainability Dashboard to showcase their energy and carbon emission savings. Here are their results:
The City of Chicago Since deployment earlier 2009, and enforcement in February, Verdiem’s SURVEYOR has already enabled the City of Chicago to lessen PC energy consumption by more than 30% and eliminate more than 300 thousand pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
The City of Honolulu, Since deployment and enforcement across 1700 of the City’s 4500 PCs in July 2008, Verdiem’s SURVEYOR has saved the City of Honolulu $30 per PC per year, reducing PC energy costs by more than 30%. As a result, the city has also attained a return on investment from its SURVEYOR purchase within 8 months of use.
At thirty cents per kilowatt hour, The City of Honolulu is paying the energy rates in the country so we deployed Verdiem’s PC power management solutions as a key component of our Green-IT initiative and it’s already paying dividends, said Gordon Bruce, director/chief information officer for the City of Honolulu. Now, using Verdiem’s new Sustainability Dashboard, we can showcase, in a very tangible way, the significant energy and carbon emission savings we have achieved.
King county, Since deployment in October 2007, Verdiem’s SURVEYOR has enabled King county’s agencies to reduce energy consumption by an average of 38% and eliminate more than 3 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions.
Networked PCs definitely consume the majority of our office energy requirements. By implementing simple policies – such as turning off our monitors after 15 minutes of inactivity, and suspend PCs after one hour – we were able to generate a surprising amount of savings, said King County’s Central Information Technology Enterprise Services Manager Bob Neddo. In addition to the benefits of the visibility that the SURVEYOR reporting function provides on our overall carbon, energy, and dollar savings, the best part about SURVEYOR is its Wake on WAN functionality that allows our employees to wake their machines remotely when they are working from home. This countywide effort has yielded tremendous benefits that will ultimately help us better serve our residents.
