Veolia’s local subsidiary CFSP will lead the project. Of the €60m, OTV-Veolia will spend €16.38m for the construction of new facilities, and €43.5m for the operation of the plant for nine years.
An anaerobic digester will be installed and innovative processes will be introduced so that a circular economy could be built around wastewater.
The anaerobic digester is expected to be commissioned at the end of 2020.
The anaerobic digester will enable the La Chauvinière plant to generate energy in the form of biomethane from wastewater.
OTV-Veolia will constitute a team to design and build the new structures. The team will include local architects Pièces Montées. CFSP plans to hire 16 apprentices locally to join the team.
Under the contract, 85% of the sub-contractor contracts will be signed with companies in the area.
Veolia plans to introduce several innovations in 2018 so that the La Chauvinière plant and its facilities can minimize energy consumption.
New technology such as the Alcion process, which converts CO2 from the purification of biogas into sodium bicarbonate, will be implemented at the plant. Household waste energy recovery facility will use the sodium bicarbonate.
An integrated ‘Hypervision 360’ control center will manage the La Chauvinière plant using service data and information to optimize operation and production.
Interactive educational visits to the plant will be organized to create ecological awareness among the public.
A project will also be taken up focusing on the La Sarthe river to demonstrate how industry and nature can co-exist harmoniously.
