The country’s National Assembly had earlier approved a sudden-profit tax on oil exports but postponed a final vote on the issue, due to the concerns of opposition members.

AFP noted that the sudden profit tax is expected to be 50% of gains when average crude oil prices are higher than $70 per barrel, and will reach a maximum of 70% of gains when oil prices touch $100 per barrel of Brent crude.
