Vectren has unveiled its new electric energy efficiency programs for its residential and small business electric customers in its southwestern Indiana service territory.

The company claimed that the new programs will help customers reduce electric consumption and lower energy bills through programs such as appliance recycling and rebates for Energy efficiency construction.

The electric programs will fold into the company’s existing Conservation Connection initiatives, which currently offer rebates on high-efficiency natural gas appliances, access to an energy efficiency resource contact center and online energy audit and bill analysis tools, among other measures.

As part of the program Vectren will provide up to $1,000 toward the construction of an Energy Star-qualified new home; $30 rebate for recycling an out-dated, inefficient refrigerator or freezer that’s in working condition; and a $30 rebate for recycling a window air conditioner that’s in working condition.

Vectren will also provide rebates for the construction of new buildings, which exceed current energy code; and custom energy efficiency upgrades, which will be tailored to customers on a project by project basis.

Carl Chapman, president and CEO of Vectren, said: ”These electric programs, which further complement our existing natural gas efficiency offerings, are just the first of many programs to come that will help our electric customers use energy wisely.

”As a company, we’ve set aggressive goals to partner with our customers in reducing electric demand to help conserve natural resources, lower customer bills and further delay the need to build new generation equipment. These programs are a start in that initiative and serve as an incentive for those who choose to be energy efficient.”

Vectren and other state utilities are working with the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission and the Office of the Utility Consumer Counselor to develop a group of core electric programs that will be offered throughout the state.

These include energy efficient lighting programs, a residential on-site energy audit and low-income weatherization programs. More information will be shared once details are finalized.
