Peab Industri said that it has chosen Vattenfall’s environmentally certified VattenEl EPD as an addition to its electric power supply agreement up until 2011. As a result, in its environmental audit, the company will be able to specify the exact environmental impact of its electricity consumption.
According to the company, VattenEl EPD is hydroelectric power that is generated in accordance with the applicable environmental declaration under the environmental product declarations system. The origin of the electricity is specified, along with specific data on how it is generated and the impact of generation on the environment.
The calculations are based on data from life-cycle analyses. Life-cycle analyses record all resource utilization and all emissions during the entire product life-cycle. Customers can obtain information concerning emissions of sulfur oxides, dust and carbon dioxides from electricity generation.
Mats Paulson, CEO of Peab Industri, said: We have chosen environmentally certified electricity from Vattenfall to visibly demonstrate that we are taking action to reduce the negative environmental impact of our activities. As a leading supplier of products and services for the construction and civil engineering market, it is crucial for us to contribute to sustainable development in society.
