Under the €150m ($169m) contract, it will supply the systems for the 150MW Amagervaerket combined heat and power plant in Copenhagen.
The contract scope includes a 500MWf CYMIC boiler that uses circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology with district heat capacity 415MJ/s.
Designed to use a total of 1.2 million tons of wood chips per year as fuel, the new boiler plant will replace an old 600MW coal-fired plant.
Valmet will also deliver biofuel storage and conveyor systems with a capacity of 105,000 cubic meters. The conveying system will feed 900 cubic meters of wood chips in an hour to the boiler.
Valmet pulp and energy business line president Bertel Karlstedt said: "The HOFOR biomass plant will be by value Valmet's largest boiler plant delivery so far.
“The plant will fulfill tightening environmental requirements by utilizing efficient firing technique.
“This is an important order for our energy business and we estimate the employment impact to be about 1,000 man years including both Valmet's own and subcontractors' work.”
The company said that the installation of the power plant is scheduled to commence in July 2017 and will be completed in 2019.
HOFOR project director Carsten Schneider said: "The investment supports HOFOR's strategy to reduce CO2 emissions through environmentally friendly and cost-efficient district heat production.”
